ZIMBABWE NOW HAS A NEW PRESIDENT - THE CROCODILE


 At the moment, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangwagwa is being sworn in as the new Zimbabwean President. He takes over from Robert Mugabe who was forced to resign after a military take over this week.

Mnangagwa has been in the corridor of power for a long time. He led in the Rhodesian Bush War. 
"After Zimbabwe was recognized in 1980, Mnangagwa held a series of senior cabinet positions under Mugabe, including as minister of state security during the Gukurahundi massacres in which thousands of Ndebele civilians were killed. Mnangagwa blamed the army for the massacres and continued to hold senior cabinet positions, though he is widely believed to be responsible

Mnangagwa was Minister of Defence from 2009 to 2013, after which he was appointed Minister of Justice. Later, he rose to the position of Vice President in December 2014. During the crisis in the ZANU-PF party, the elites favour him as the successor to Mugabe, but a faction wanted Grace Mugabe instead. Some think he is behind the military take over though this is seen as mere speculation.
Mnangagwais nicknamed "Ngwena" which means "the crocodile" in the Shona language for the political resilience group he founded,
